Welcome to Gabalah

We are a small group of people working to develop an intentional community on land in northern New South Wales, Australia.

We are committed to the principles of

Environmental Responsibility
Social Harmony
Economic Independence

The land was acquired in 1996 and we are working with the Tweed Shire Council to establish a rural landsharing community facilitated by New South Wales state government planning legislation which entitles up to 14 dwellings on the property. As required by the legislation, the land will be collectively owned and the emphasis will be on low cost owner-built and recycled dwellings. A development application was submitted to the Tweed Shire Council on Monday April 23, 2007. It is going through a process of revision taking into account the local farming community's concerns.

A 1930's Queenslander style house was moved onto the property from Brisbane in March, 2006.

Our project was initiated in 1996 with some interesting detours along the way. See the original website.

We intend to move towards community title if one day the Tweed Shire Council amends its local environment plan as the Byron shire council is doing.

In light of the length of time and the lack of adequate information provided to date this application will be recommended for refusal to Council's Development Application Panel if these matters are not adequately addressed."
